The idea of Next has deep meaning to me in multiple directions.In my experience, it is not generally this way in life -- a time a multiple Nexts.  Usually third grade is the obvious next for a second grader and the empty nest is the same to adults with kids living at home.  I've had all those.  Except retirement.  That's my big obvious next like third grade or empty nests.  But my cancer suggests another next even more persuasively, and  a lot of my sense of next is focused on Jeremy and Maia. As it turns out, in a time of multiple nexts, I'm not feeling very next-oriented.  I'm not doing things as a step toward something else.  This is the something else.  I'm doing the work I went to Utah State back in 1998 to get a PhD in Instructional Technology for. Even so, the nexts are so strong I can't help but bring them into the already full present.  Retirement travel day dreams.  The end of life practitioners circle at Commonweal.  The next generation.
